(Waldorf, MD., Feb. 7, 2019)– The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced the signing of right handed pitcher Luis Chirinos for the 2019 season.
This Venezuelan native, Chirinos was signed on July 4, 2006 by the Florida Marlins as a non-drafted free agent. Luis went on to play in the Marlins organization for four years before making his way to the world of independent baseball. Chirinos will be joining the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs after playing in the 2018-2019 Venezuelan Winter League for the Caribes de Anzoategui with a career 275.2 innings pitched with a 2.85 ERA.
“We are excited to have Chirinos joining us this upcoming season in Southern Maryland,” said Blue Crabs Manager Stan Cliburn. “Luis will be coming off of a couple of seasons in the winter leagues and we are excited to see how he does in independent baseball.”
