Rockers Flip The Script
High Point, NC – A night after Southern Maryland punished the High Point Rockers with a 4-0 shutout victory, the Rockers gave the Blue Crabs a taste of their own medicine in 4-0 victory of their own.
High Point’s starting pitcher, Michael Bowden (W, 1-0) viciously neutralized the Blue Crabs bats early and often. After striking out the side to begin the contest, Bowden went on to strike out a dozen in six and two thirds innings.
Michael Kelly (L, 3-7) got the start for Southern Maryland, and he was extremely good as well. The only difference in the contest was timely hits for the Rockers, as Kelly allowed just four hits through six innings while striking out nine. Kelly set the single season best for a Blue Crab for strikeouts in a game with ten earlier this season, and now also holds a piece of second place as well.
In the bottom of the first inning Richie Shaffer doubled to left field plating a pair of Rockers to put the score at 2-0. The only other runs in the contest came in the bottom of the fourth, and in the bottom of the sixth, as Michael Russell and Viosergy Rosa homered.
The contest featured just 11 total hits, but the six that came off of High Point batsmen occurred just when they needed them, and that was the difference in a 4-0 Rockers victory.
The Blue Crabs will return home on Friday August 2nd for the series opener of a three game set with the Somerset Patriots, and a 6:35 p.m first pitch.
