(6/8/2023, Waldorf, MD) The Blue Crabs have announced that RHP Andre Scrubb has had his contract purchased by the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the Mexican Baseball League.
Scrubb was signed during the 2023 off-season and became the closer for the Blue Crabs come Opening Day. From there on, the MLB veteran shined and proved why he deserves a second chance at affiliated baseball. Scrubb was the ALPB’s top closer, leading the league in saves, while posting a 1.15 ERA, and struck out 18 batters in just 15.2 innings pitched.
Before coming to Southern Maryland, Scrubb was drafted in the 8th round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. From there, the reliever would spend most of his career bouncing around the Dodgers and Houston Astros farm systems, before getting released in 2021.
“Andre is a fantastic player and an amazing teammate,” said Blue Crabs Manager Stan Cliburn, “I’m excited to see him perform in Mexico and see where he can go from there.”
Andre Scrubb is now the second Blue Crab to have their contract purchased this season, the first being infielder Michael Wielansky, who got his contract purchased by the San Francisco Giants in late-May.
The Blue Crabs return home to Waldorf this Friday, June 9th for Boy Scout Night and County Employee Appreciation Night! On Saturday, the first 500 fans will receive their own Alex Crosby Bobblehead on Military Appreciation Night!
