A week before opening day, the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced the return of two significant contributors from last year's team. The third-year Blue Crab, Alex Crosby, signs back with the club after he put together another excellent season at the plate. David Harris rejoins the Crabs after he paced the team in batting average, on-base percentage, OPS, and RBIs.
Crosby has been featured in 222 games with the Blue Crabs since being signed in 2021; he has a career batting average of .296, with 21 home runs and 48 doubles. The left-handed hitter started his career in 2015 with the Gary-Southshore RailCats, where he was a mainstay on the team for five seasons. Crosby was on Great Britain's WBC team this past Winter, where he was named the team captain during pool play. His sacrifice play in the European Championships propelled the Brits to make it to pool play for the first time in the team's history.
David Harris is a former Toronto Blue Jays prospect, and in 2017 was named the MVP of the Frontier League; the same year, he helped the team win the league championship. Last year, Harris had a .322 average, a .392 on-base percentage, and hit 16 long balls; all were the best on the team. The slugger joins the Blue Crabs for his third year and his tenth in professional baseball.
The Atlantic League season is starting precisely a week from today. The Blue Crabs will begin their 2023 season with a fan fest tomorrow as they host the Black Sox for a spring training game. The Crabs host the league champions, the Lancaster Barnstormers, next week on the 15th opening day in the organization's history. We hope to see you there!
