The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announce the signing of 23-year-old infielder Brett Barrera. The right hander went to Stanford and was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 8th round of the 2022 draft.

Most recently, he played for the Oakland Ballers in the Pioneer League, where he turned heads with a .356 batting average, while also blasting 23 home runs, and had 91 RBIs in 89 games during the 2024 season. He led the team in OPS (1.058), average (.356), and slugging percentage (.618).

Before his time with the Ballers, Barrera was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 8th round of the 2022 MLB Draft, bringing him into professional baseball. While playing for the Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Single-A affiliate, he received 199 at-bats. Between Single-A and Rookie ball, he played 58 games for the Yankees Organization. During his two seasons with the Yankees, he had a .981 fielding percentage.

Barrera has played multiple positions throughout his career. At Stanford University, he showcased his versatility by starting 62 of 65 games across second base (40), designated hitter (14), first base (6), and third base (2). Before he was drafted in 2022 with Stanford, he batted .351, with 11 home runs and drove in 53 in 63 games.
