Blue Crabs Bring two Newcomers Aboard, In Latest Signings of Eeles and Ray

(Waldorf, MD) The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have added two new players to their roster for the upcoming season, inking 24-year-old left-handed second baseman Payton Eeles, and veteran outfielder Anthony Ray.

Eeles hails from Acworth, Georgia and last season hit .374, while adding 4 home runs and 43 RBIs at Coastal Carolina University in his super senior season. He has shown base-stealing prowess as well, totaling 43 steals in college, while also having an elite .988 fielding percentage at second base. After graduation, he played with the Chicago Dogs of the American Association and hit .311 in 39 games.

28-year-old Chicago native Anthony Ray comes to Southern Maryland with plenty of experience. He was originally drafted by the St Louis Cardinals in the 36th round in 2013 out of high school. He is entering his 10th year of professional baseball, spending time in affiliated and independent baseball throughout his career. Last season the left-handed batter and right-handed thrower batted .327 and drove in 42 runs for Grand Junction in the Pioneer League.
