Southern Maryland lost 3-1 on Friday night to High Point on Friday night after what was a tight battle.
The Blue Crabs took the lead in the first inning when John Taylor knocked a leadoff double. Two batters later, Alejandro De Aza brought Taylor around to score on an RBI single. High Point tied the ballgame at 1-1 when Drew Mendoza single in Luis Gonzalez.
The teams were tied heading into the sixth, but High Point tallied a pair on a Jack Conley two-run blast.
Despite the loss, Ian Kahaloa had a strong night on the mound. He tossed five innings and allowed one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out six. Rafi Vazquez was tabbed with the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits before Jarod Wright, Andre Scrubb and Brandon McCabe all made relief appearances.
While the Blue Crabs offense was quieted on Friday, Giovanni Digiacomo and Jackson Loftin had multi-hit games.
Rockers starter Kyle Barraclough earned the win after holding the Blue Crabs to just one run on six hits.
Southern Maryland falls to 18-19 but will look to bounce back on Saturday night for game two against the Rockers.
