Former Blue Crab Pitcher Isaac Mattson Called Up to Majors with Pittsburgh Pirates

Waldorf, MD: On Thursday, former Blue Crab pitcher Issac Mattson was called up to the Major league team, the Pittsburgh Pirates organization announced.

The 29-year-old, right-handed pitcher Mattson won the Indianapolis Indians pitcher of the year in Triple-A and was the recipient of the Pirate Organization’s “Community Commitment award” this season. He began this season in double-A with the Altoona Curve, where he went 2-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 11 innings, while also fanning 13 hitters. Mattson was called up to Triple-A Indianapolis on May 7th.  In Indianapolis this season, he pitched in 29 games and locked down a 5-1 record with a 3.15 ERA. He picked up three saves in 60 innings of work whilestriking out 76 batters.

Mattson fired 19 innings for Southern Maryland in 2023, before having his contract purchased by the Minnesota Twins Organization on June 22nd. He struck out 24 batters in those 19 innings and allowed only 12 hits for the Blue Crabs. Mattson appeared in the majors before, he had four appearances with the Baltimore Orioles in 2021. He was originally drafted by the Angels in 2017.
