(Waldorf, MD) The Blue Crabs have announced their first pair of signings for the upcoming 16th season of Blue Crabs baseball. Gabe Wurtz and Anthony Brocato will begin Southern Maryland’s 2024 roster.
Wurtz is a 6-5 outfielder who is entering his fourth season in professional baseball. The Alabama native has spent the past couple of seasons in the Pioneer League as a member of the Billings Mustangs. With the Mustangs, he played in 181 games, swatted 39 home runs, and accounted for 152 runs batted in.
Anthony Brocato hails from New Jersey and played collegiate baseball at St. John’s University. The 27-year-old outfielder began his professional career with the Southern Illinois Miners in 2019. He most recently was a member of the Washington Wild Things and in 2023, was one of their most productive hitters, batting .282 with 28 home runs, and a very impressive .960 OPS.
