(Waldorf, MD): The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announce they have four new additions to the roster, which includes outfielders Chase Vinson, Khalil Wilson, and Garrett Martin, while also adding left-handed pitcher Trevor McGee.
Lefty corner outfielder Chase Vinson is 24-years-old and entering his first professional season after playing at Morehead State and three years in the Prospect League. In two seasons at Morehead State in 2022 and 2023, he compiled 23 blasts to go along with 82 RBI’s. The Oakwood, Illinois native has mainly played right field, playing all 56 contests there in 2023. He played three summers for the Danville Dans where he had 106 hits in 106 games with an Average of .268 while adding 11 home runs and 86 RBI’s.
The 24-year-old Wilson is another left-hander, both throwing and hitting. The Acworth, Georgia resident played multiple summer ball seasons in the Sunbelt Baseball League. During His last playing season in 2022, he played 21 games for the Antelope Valley Pioneers in Lancaster, California. In those games, mainly as a pinch runner, he netted seven steals and 16 runs, and was never caught stealing. Last season, he was a hitting coach in Georgia and now makes his return to playing with the Blue Crabs entering his rookie season as a professional.
24-year-old Garrett Martin, a six-foot-three right hander out of Gypsum Colorado joins the club coming off of a 6-2 record with the WestSide Woolly Mammoths. He had a lengthy college career first playing at Marian College and then had two seasons with the Middle Georgia Knights while also playing collegiate summer league ball every year. During his five seasons in college, he racked up 346 strikeouts in just over 280 innings. He also pitched to a 3.16 ERA throughout five college seasons, and has been a consistent starter, making 14 and 15 starts in 2021 and 2022 for the Knights while starting 12 games last season for WestSide. He carried a record of 26 and 13 in his collegiate career.
Next up is Trevor McGee, the left hander is entering his second pro season. He played three seasons as a starter and reliever for the Clarion Golden Eagles in the Penn League in college, before playing in the Pioneer League last year for Grand Junction. In 2021, he made six starts winning three of them. Most recently, the 24-year-old is pitching in winter ball for the Washington Blue Sox, and has authored a 3-1 record with a 1.57 ERA in 26.2 innings. McGee comes from Bensalem, Pennsylvania a suburb of Philadelphia, and was teammates with current Blue Crab Anthony Ray last year in the Pioneer League.
The Blue Crabs have now inked 19 players as they gear up for the 2024 campaign.
