Bio
Cody Thompson returns for a second season with the Blue Crabs. After a strong showing in 2024, the 28-year-old right-hander Thompson re-signed after having the third best ERA on the staff in 2024 among qualified pitchers.
Thompson had a standout season last year in his first season in Southern Maryland, going (2-4) and posting a 3.80 ERA over 40 appearances. The Mechanicsville, Virginia native had 69 strikeouts in 66.1 innings pitched, which equated to a strikeout per nine of 9.4.
Thompson’s consistency throughout the season led him to become one of the go-to relievers in the bullpen for Stan Cliburn.
On June 15th against Charleston, Thompson recorded his only save on the season, pitching the last three innings to close out a 3-1 victory without allowing a run. Thompson went two or more innings in relief 16 times last season, and was heavily relied upon to get crucial outs late in games.
Before the Blue Crabs, Thompson pitched at Division Three Randolph Macon College, then turned professional and had several years in both the Pioneer and Frontier Leagues. It will be Thompson’s sixth professional season and second with the Crabs.
