The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs lost in Sunday’s series finale 12-5 to the Gastonia Ghost Peppers.

Starter Jalen Miller found success early, facing just two over the minimum through four innings. But Gastonia opened up a four-spot in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. The Ghost Peppers tacked on two more in the sixth, before the Blue Crabs got on the board when Giovanni Digiacomo knocked in a run with a groundout.

Gastonia took a 9-1 lead with a three-run seventh, but then the Blue Crabs answered back with two runs of their own.

An RBI single from Ethan Wilson and a sacrifice fly from Alejandro De Aza made it a 9-3 ballgame, before a Digiacomo solo shot and a Ryan McCarthy sacrifice fly made it 9-5 in the eighth.

Gastonia tacked on another three runs in the ninth to make it 12-5.

With the loss the Blue Crabs fall to 16-15 on the season. Southern Maryland will be back in action on Monday with a doubleheader in York before traveling to Long Island to begin a three game series on Tuesday.
