The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs fell to the Gastonia Ghost Peppers 8-3 in Thursday’s series finale in North Carolina.
Southern Maryland fell behind early after Gastonia put up a four spot in the first inning. Jack Reinheimer hit a solo blast to take a 1-0 lead before Cole Roederer and Patrick Mazeika reached base, leading to a three-run blast by Narciso Crook to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
The Blue Crabs got on the board in the fourth when Pearce Howard cranked a home run to right field. Southern Maryland tacked on another in the sixth when John Taylor doubled in Giovanni Digiacomo bringing the Blue Crabs within two.
Gastonia took an 8-2 lead with four runs in the sixth, before Southern Maryland scored once more in the seventh, courtesy of an RBI from Alejandro De Aza.
Southern Maryland falls to 15-13 on the season, but will be back in action on Friday night when they return to Waldorf to take on the Ghost Peppers at Regency Furniture Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m.
