Manager Stan Cliburn moves into 13th all-time with 2,035 career Minor League victories after the Blue Crabs picked up a vital 4-3 rubber match win against the Rockers.
The Blue Crabs got the scoring starting in the second inning when Jamari Baylor and Giovanni Digiacomo reached to begin the frame. Brett Barrera scratched across the first run of the game with an RBI groundout before Pearce Howard knocked in Digiacomo on a sacrifice fly.
High Point tied the ballgame in the fourth when Jack Conley hit a two-run single. But soon after Southern Maryland took the lead once more with a two-run blast from Jackson Loftin in the fifth.
The Rockers threatened late on and nabbed a run back in the eighth, but it wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback against the Crabs who closed it out in High Point.
Andrew Thurman earned the win after pitching six innings and striking out eight batters. He allowed just two runs on four hits and a pair of walks, before Joey Hennessey and Jarod Wright set Brandon McCabe up for his second save of the season.
With the win, Stan Cliburn moves into sole position of 13th place in all-time Minor League managerial wins, surpassing Tom Kotchman. After a long road-trip that included a doubleheader in York and three game sets in Long Island and High Point, the Blue Crabs are 20-19 and head back to Waldorf in what will be a nine-game home stand, beginning on Tuesday night against the Gastonia Ghost Peppers.
