York Revolution Storm Back Late to Edge Southern Maryland 7–6 in Dramatic Finish
YORK, PA — In a game filled with momentum swings, the York Revolution rallied with five runs in the final two innings to beat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, 7–6, on Tuesday night at WellSpan Park.
The Blue Crabs jumped out to a quick lead, plating four runs in the top of the first. Designated hitter Dondrei Hubbard hit a two run triple in the top of the first to make it 2-0 as a part of a three-hit night, including a double and single as well. The next batter Alejandro De Aza added an RBI single and later stole a base, De Aza scored from second on a throwing error by Jalen Miller of York to make it 4-0. York got two back instantly, when Justin Connell launched his sixth homer of the season, a two-run blast that cut the lead to 4-2 after one.
After that initial flurry, York starter Matt Walker settled down, but Southern Maryland still tacked on solo runs in the fourth and seventh, building what looked like a safe 6–2 cushion heading into the eighth. In the fourth, Jackson Loftin singled and later scored on a wild pitch. In the seventh, Brett Barrera brought in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Trailing by four in the bottom of the eighth, the Revolution found life against reliever Andre Scrubb, who allowed four runs without recording an out. Marty Costes added an RBI single and Jefferey Wehler tied it up with a clutch two-run single.
In the bottom of the ninth, it was Jalen Miller once again setting the table with his third hit of the night. After two walks loaded the bases, Brandon Lewis hit a shallow fly ball to right that was caught by Ethan Wilson as Miller came home with the winning run on a sac fly. Cam Robinson (3–1) earned the win with a scoreless top of the ninth, striking out two.
Southern Maryland starter Scott Semple pitched well over six innings, allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out five. Closer Jimmie Sherfy (1–1) took the loss, giving up the winning run in the ninth.
The Crabs have lost four in a row as they look to get back on track tomorrow night for game two of three at 6:30PM at Wellspan Park.
