Biography:
Michael Baca is an infielder who will be playing in his third straight season with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. This will be Baca’s fifth season in professional baseball, having competed in the Atlantic League, Frontier League, and the American Association.
Baca is from the Lone Star state and was the star of his high school as they won a District 2-5A championship, Baca had a .496 batting average while driving in 51 runs for the Sandies. He was selected as the best defender in his district for his work as a shortstop.
Coming out of high school, Baca headed west to play baseball at the University of New Mexico. Baca bounced around after his first season, transferring to play ball at Cisco JC, Texas-Pan American, and Tabor College. In his final two seasons with the Tabor Blue Jays, he had a slash of .368/.426/.545, with 21 doubles, and 30 stolen bases.
Upon graduating college, Baca signed with Stan Cliburn and his New Britain Bees in 2017. He has also spent time with other ball clubs, such as the High Point Rockers, Normal Corn Belters, and Chicago Dogs.
Baca has become the everyday shortstop for the Blue Crabs, having logged over 1800 innings in the last two seasons. Baca has also only committed 38 errors in his 854 chances, crediting him with a .956 fielding percentage.
